An excellent place for family dinners and enjoying good quality food. Oriental Tea House has quite an overwhelmingly large menu however when I came with a large group of people to celebrate a birthday, we ordered many different dishes. Honestly, everything we chose tasted delicious and a special shout out to the Mi Goreng. It was my favourite dish and was so popular among the table that we had to order a second bowl of it!
Always love coming to Oriental Teahouse - for drinks, I always love getting the Hello Vera, in terms of dumplings, the pork wagyu, XLB, prawn and scallop are so tasty. Also got fried rice, veg with garlic and delicious fried chicken. Highly recommend the white chocolate dumpling for dessert. Great and attentive service
Been here many times over the years and normally love the food. Today the dumplings were a little undercooked. They were falling apart as well. The Peking duck was ok. Cocktails were good and service was great. Would still return but would prob order differently.
I had an incredible dining experience at this restaurant. The tasting menu was a delicious journey through a wide variety of dishes. Although there were a few dishes that didn't quite hit the mark for me, the highlights more than made up for it. The Peking duck, prawn dumplings, and sizzling steak were absolutely amazing. The staff were incredibly friendly and prompt in their service, making me feel completely at home. Though the price was on the higher side, it's Chapel St after all, and the quality of the food was worth it. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a memorable dining experience
Our dining experience at Oriental Teahouse in South Yarra can be likened to night-time yumcha. There was a good selection of choices available, but I felt it was more fusion than genuine Cantonese style. The skin of some dumplings was a bit over-steamed and had more of a sticky texture. Their salt and pepper calamari was however, done quite well.
11/10 for service. It was on top and quick.
We took $55/person all you can eat set menu. Everything from start to end was super delicious and it was hard to make the decision which ones to repeat because we felt like repeating it all. Some of the many dishes that we had are
1. Pork Spring Rolls
2. Pan fried Pork Dumplings
3. Prawn & Chive Dumplings
4. Schezuan Pepper Chicken
5. Chinese Broccoli
6. White Chocolate & Coconut Dumpling
My mouth is watering again while I type this.
Please don’t be fooled by the decorum. This place was truly AVERAGE. If you have been to any of Melbourne’s amazing Chinese restaurants then this place will unfortunately truly disappoint you.
we were expecting standard, but our expectations were exceeded!
honestly, everything was so tasty….like tempted to put down my chopsticks and down everything with a spoon tasty. every dish was popping with flavour, and each of them different! no flavour fatigue here! our favourites included the sweet sweet bbq pork - fantastic glaze and pork perfectly balanced between chewy and tender. LOVED the crispy nori prawn too! these were unassuming but quite moreish and the prawn was PLUMP! the dumpling skins were slightly thick, but filled quite generously and juicy.
we also loved their “cockteas,” super refreshing, light and generously portioned (not sure how strong in alc tho lol). also portioned well were the mains, these were $25 each! a main serve of protein goes for at least $35+ these days so this was such a treat.
every dish was piping hot, this won me over! waitstaff were repeatedly apologetic for delays as they had a huge function upstairs but tbh in great company and yummy food, we didnt notice a delay at all!
trends are cool, but sometimes there’s just nothing like an og!
